The Children First Society operates the Children First Centre that serves the community of Inuvik, NT. The Centre provides high-quality early childhood education through developmentally and culturally appropriate, play-based, inclusive programming.

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-today operations of the Centre, ensuring the safety of employees and children, liaising with member families and external organizations, and providing support to the volunteer Board of Directors as the secretary. The Executive Director is responsible for the effective leadership and management of the Society. They will lead and manage the overall operations, legislative requirements, budgets, capital assets and programming and services. Working with the Board and Staff the Executive Director plans, develops and implements policies, programs, strategic activities, and research to further develop the Children First Society.

The Centre operates in a modern, multi-purpose built facility that includes a dedicated staff room, full
commercial kitchen, six classrooms, offices, and an outdoor play area that serves up to 127 children.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Public or Health Administration or similar combined with several years of Early Childhood Education/Administration and management experience. They will demonstrate the following competencies in their cover letter and resume:
• human resources management and conflict resolution;
• strong written and oral communication skills;
• project and time management;
• financial management;
• cultural awareness; and
• an understanding of relevant legislation and best practices in early childhood education.

A Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education/Administration is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered. The successful candidate will be required to submit a satisfactory criminal records and vulnerable sector check; must be willing to must meet the requirements of the immunization program in accordance with NWT Immunization Schedule; and complete tuberculosis screening.

The base salary for the position is $95,000 per year plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,000 and a benefits package that includes health benefits.
