Employment Standards Appeals
The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment is seeking individuals who are interested in serving as Adjudicators under the Employment Standards Act (the “Act”). The Adjudicators act as independent quasi-judicial individuals to hear appeals of decisions of the Employment Standards Officer established under the Act.
Each individual Adjudicator is responsible for adjudicating complex and sometimes contentious appeals in a fair and impartial manner and rendering written decisions within established time frames.
Adjudicators will be appointed for five years on an as-and-when-needed basis and paid an honorarium and expenses.
Several years of administrative law or adjudicative experience and a basic knowledge of employment law is required. Candidates must demonstrate decision writing or similar business writing experience and high-level analytical and communication skills necessary to assess facts, apply the law and make well-reasoned decisions. Equivalencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
