Business Development Officer
Fort Norman Metis Development Corporation (FNMDC) is headquarters in Tulita, Northwest Territories. The FNMDC is affiliated with the Fort Norman Metis Community (FNMC) who has members living throughout Canada. It is a growing community, consisting of over 378 members enrolled in the Sahtu Dene and Métis Land Claim Agreement.
The Position
The FNMDC is seeking to hire a Business Development Officer on a full-time basis to provide financial support to the FNMDC. The Employee shall assist the Executive Director and the Board of Directors with Financial support for the Fort Norman Metis Development Corporation.
Job Summary
The position is responsible for providing services such as advice and assistance in areas of business operations, marketing, accounting and finance in various business opportunities with the objective of maximizing economic opportunities for the success of the Fort Norman Metis Development Corporation.
The position looks for business opportunities, analyzes the opportunities and makes recommendations to the board of directors, if approved by the board, look for funding to help fund the business opportunity, submit a funding application to various funding agencies.
Employed by the FNMDC the Business Development Finance Officer is responsible for adhering to the policies and direction as determined by the Executive Board of the FNMC and work with the Executive Director. This position is required to work independently and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Good knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial analysis, financial planning
• Good knowledge and experience in business planning,
• Experience writing proposals, submitting written reports on projects,
• Experience doing budgets and variance reports
• Experience in project management
• Knowledge and sensitivity to northern issues, initiatives, politics, and cultures
• A good understanding of small business organization, finance, marketing, and operations
• A good understanding of northern business issues, practices, and licensing /regulatory requirements
• A good understanding of the northern economies
• A good understanding of diplomacy and public relations are required to work cooperatively with elected community officials to jointly develop community economic plans and partnerships
• Experience in computer software such as Word, Excel, Email, Gmail and Microsoft
• Excellent Communication skills both in verbal, and written
• The specific duties include maintaining and filing all financial records.
• tracking and monitoring all accounts receivable and payable.
• providing status updates to the Executive Director.
• Provide quarterly reports to board of directors
• Must be willing to work independently and in a team setting
Qualifications
• A diploma in Business Administration in economics, business, finance and three years’ experience in business or community development
• A degree in Business Commerce, minor in economics, small business and with two years related experience
Benefits
• 14 days’ vacation per calendar year and the option for a 1 week off without pay per calendar
• Lieu time is paid in flex time
• 15 days sick leave per year
• Work remotely as a satellite office until such time as Housing is available in Tulita
Salary – Depends upon education and experience
