The Tlicho Government in partnership with WSP is pleased to offer a fixed term, full-time internship position. This internship opportunity will be to support the WSP consulting team with the ongoing closure and land reclamation efforts at Giant Mine. The internship is to start in early September and will end in mid December, 2024. The position is based in Yellowknife, NT.
This internship will focus on the consulting side of mine closure and reclamation. Work will be office and field based. The intern will have opportunity to accompany field staff and consultants on site visits to the Giant Mine. The intern will be assigned a mentor who will grow the intern’s learning about project management, consulting, time management, and communications. Supported by a WSP assigned mentor, the intern will assist technical teams with reporting, data entry and document management.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Is considering enrollment in or has recently graduated from a post secondary degree program or diploma in environmental science or a related field
• Communications skills, both written and verbal, in English
• Interest in a career in environmental monitoring, science and
• engineering, and related field work and investigations
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)
• Ability to work in a team structure and/or independently
The candidate must be a member of the Tlicho Nation and be an NWT Resident
Additional assets for the successful candidate will include:
• Some prior experience in mining or a mining-related field (Experience can include coursework, other internships or formal work experience)
• Experience using SharePoint
• Field work experience, especially in environmental monitoring
