Job Description

The Status of Women Council of the NWT is looking for an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Purpose:
The Executive Director position is responsible for the implementation of decisions and directions regarding the effective and efficient operations of the Status of Women Council of the NWT while providing advice and support as a staff team leader.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Implement decisions and directions of the Status of Women Council of the NWT
• Advise the Council on administrative, personnel, financial, legal, and procedural issues
• Provide Council members with information on issues of concern to women
• Manage the human resource activities of the staff, including hiring, termination, interviewing, job descriptions, supervising, conducting performance evaluations, and professional development
• Manage communication between Status of Women Council of the NWT and the public through media by preparing press releases, arranging public meetings, developing good working relationships with the media, and maintaining a Council website and by email communication with stakeholders
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with NWT’s women’s groups, Federal, Territorial, Provincial Status of Women Councils, and other major women’s groups
• Draft for Council’s approval, operational plans, budgets, annual reports and policies and procedures

Desired Knowledge and Skills:
• Extensive managerial and supervisory experience
• Knowledge of operational planning, financial and human resource management processes, and systems
• Knowledge of government and political processes
• Broad knowledge of the social and economic issues affecting northern women and families
• Knowledge and efficiency in the use of computers and software
• Strong written and analytical skills
• Strong individual and team leader decision-making skills
• Excellent interpersonal, public relation and conflict resolution skills
• Strong networking and communication (oral, written and presentation) skills
• Understanding of cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic variables in the NWT and other jurisdictions
• Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting
• Sensitivity to diverse communities and cultures
• Ability to work under pressure
