EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/FINANCE OFFICER

The Position:
The Gwichya Gwich’in Council (the “Council”) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the dual position of Executive Director/Finance Officer responsible for the delivery and management of Council-approved activities and the management of the community Red River Development Corporation.

Reporting:
The Executive Director reports to President and Council and to the Board of the Red River Development Corporation.

The Community:
Tsiigehtchic is a First Nation community located approximately 114 kms south of Inuvik, NT and is accessible by an all-weather gravel road. Inuvik is the service centre and the closest commercially airline served community. The community offers basic services and a wide range of year-round outdoor activities.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will be expected to work independently and have, at minimum the following qualifications:

  • a minimum of five years working in a senior management position with a First Nation including responsibilities for administration and economic development
  • minimum of three-years’ experience in the use of Sage 50 Accounting Software
  • thorough understanding of accounting principles and requirements for a First Nation government, and able to prepare annual budgets and complete monthly reporting to Council
  • excellent verbal and writing skills, and skilled with Microsoft Office products
  • able to work in a high-paced environment and effectively manage staff and program delivery
  • strong business knowledge and management
  • excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, confidentiality
  • excellent at writing funding applications for additional programs and services to the community
  • familiarity with Human Resource requirements and able to establish clear objectives supported by excellent management and mentoring

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment
  • able to live in a small community with limited services and resources
  • knowledge of Boards and governance structures
  • must be able to manage and report effectively on the community business activities
