EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
JUSTICES OF THE PEACE REVIEW COUNCIL
The Justices of the Peace Review Council holds inquiries on complaints made against Justices of the Peace. The Minister of Justice, The Honourable R.J. Simpson, is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for two representatives of the public to complete its membership.
The Justices of the Peace Review Council is established under the Justices of the Peace Act and members serve for four (4) year terms. Candidates must be an NWT resident. Experience in the justice field is not necessary, however, experience in following areas would be considered an asset:
• Work or volunteer experience in the field of justice
• Community service of a social service nature
• Education, training or course work in the field of justice
• Experience sitting on or working with a tribunal
• Experience in ethics
The Council meets as required. Meetings could be over multiple days and may be held virtually or in-person. If required, members travel and reasonable expenses incurred to attend meetings are paid or reimbursed.
