Inuvialuit Arbitraton Board

Are you interested in serving as a GNWT Member on the Inuvialuit Arbitration Board?

The GNWT invites expressions of interest from candidates interested in being appointed for the following GNWT position on the Inuvialuit Arbitation Board (IAB):

  • Member ($400/per day) and travel per diems as required

The Member will participte in any Inuvialuit Arbitration Board proceedings. The Inuvialuit Arbitration Board is responsible for carrying out the functions outlined under Section 1 of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.

As a Member of the Inuvialuit Arbitration Board and subsequent Arbitration Committee the Member should have knowledge and experience relevant to the IAB and a good understanding of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.

Familiarity with Inuvialuit culture, customs and lifestyle would be an asset. Having an understanding of legal principles, the giving of evidence, and familiarity with providing legal analysis would also be an asset.

The Inuvialuit Arbitration Board has eleven (11) Members; including a Chair and Vice-Chair. One (1) GNWT nominated Member is appointed by the Governor in Council, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada.

The GNWT Inuvialuit Arbitration Board Member holds the appointment for a term of three (3) years and may be eligible for reappointment.

The selection of succesful candidates will be based on a combination of work experience, skills, knowledge, community involvement, any other experience relevant to the position, and the particular needs of the Board.

During the appointment process, the applicant will be asked to undergo a federal security clearance, including the provision of finerprints and a credit check.
