Family Support Case Worker
The YWCA NWT Family Support Case Worker is part of a housing support team that provides support and coordinates services to tenant families and offers support in a flexible, compassionate manner using positive social responses within a trauma-informed practice approach.
Duties and responsibilities:
- collaborates with families to create a comprehensive service plan
- provides case management and advocacy to tenant families
- actively works to mitigate the impacts of mental health issues/addictions
- coordinates and monitors referrals and bridges gaps
- liaison with other service agencies
- helps families advocate for benefits, entitlements, and services
- educates clients about rights and responsibilities of tenancy
- connects families with resources to cover basic needs
Qualifications:
- extensive experience with families facing conditions of risk
- specialized training in mental health and addictions
- solid understanding of harm reduction and social determinants of health
- ability to resolve issues without confrontation or power struggles
- awareness of the impacts and trauma of residential schools
- ability to problem solve, deal with crisis, and work flexible hours as required
This is a full-time position working out of the Transitional Housing office in Yellowknife. Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits included (health/dental, vacation, pension plan) in a flexible, caring work environment.
