HR COORDINATOR
Location: Hay River
Reports to: President

The successful candidate will be a self-starter – experienced in supporting a workforce attached to Marine Transportation Services shipyard and freight terminal in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Occasional travel will be required to other operating terminals in the NWT. Additionally, he/she will have direct line responsibility for hiring and mobilizing certified marine crew to wide variety of Western Arctic Sealift fleet tugs and barges.

The role and responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • full cycle recruitment support from reviewing crew needs, preparing job postings, shortlisting, interviewing and preparing offer packages
  • welcome new employees and visitors on board and complete necessary inductions
  • coordinate the planning of marine and shipyard employees
  • prepare the crew changes including travel arrangement for the crew in coordination with orsi travel agent to ensure a smooth transition
  • keep track of crew certificates required by (inter)national regulations, company requirements and union requirements and guide employees in order to meet both company and client training requirements
  • act as the liaison with orsi head office to ensure efficiency of payroll processing, this includes submission of timesheets, and notification of new hires, terminations, and layoffs
  • prepare confidential communications such as offer letters, terminations, internal changes, etc.
  • act as the liaison between the hay river office and employees
  • act as an employee/client counselor confidant
  • ensure good working relations with all union representatives to ensure compliance of collective agreements are maintained

Requirements:

  • post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • five (5) years of work experience; previous experience/ knowledge in supporting marine or heavy industrial operations would be a definite asset
  • knowledge of human resources processes and best practices
  • ability to execute with excellence and adhere to established timelines
  • confident and effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow up skills
