Temporary Kitikmeot Bureau Reporter

Northern News Services Ltd. –  Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Job Description

Are you an experienced news reporter seeking adventure and a well-paying job in Canada’s North? NNSL Media, publishers of six award-winning newspapers and two news websites, is looking for the ideal candidate to establish a one-year term position, based in Yellowknife, NWT, reporting on Nunavut’s Kitikmeot region. The successful candidate will write and shoot photographs primarily for an Inuit audience at nunavutnews.com and its corresponding newspaper Nunavut News. Content will also be made available to Canadian Press. The Kitikmeot reporter will provide high quality news stories and photo features, while gathering information and contributions from residents across the Kitikmeot.

The individual will cover all types of news, including politics, crime and education, with an emphasis on Civic Journalism to enhance community engagement with democratic institutions in the region. Some travel may be required. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and photography skills and some knowledge of the North and Inuit concerns.

Nunavut News consistently ranks as one of the best community newspapers in Canada, and our journalists produce top-quality work that aims to reflect the majority of Nunavut’s residents. We have the highest engagement rate among our competitors on Facebook, the result of an ongoing effort to understand what excites and frustrates our readers.
