LABOURERS
Location: Hay River Shipyard
Reports to: Supervisor Shipyard Operations
Perform various manual labour duties and fire watch in and about the shipyard.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- may be required to perform safety watch duties for confined space jobs, and fire watch duties for hot work jobs
- performing various tasks, usually physical in nature, such as track and bed maintenance, slipway maintenance, wheel maintenance, docking and launching of vessels, handling scrap steel, and yard clean up.
- performing minor maintenance duties, such as scraping, painting, or barge cleaning
- performing general duties such as sweeping, cleaning, and general housekeeping
- may operate or use small power tools or equipment
- enter confined spaces and tanks and utilize necessary equipment to clean and prepare compartments for service
Required education and experience:
- previous experience in the area of work assignment
- preferably some previous shipyard and commercial track and bed experience or construction labour experience
- possesses a valid driver’s license
- training in confined space entry
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- ability to perform strenuous manual labour
- ability to operate small power tools
- able to follow verbal and/or written instructions
