The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) based in Inuvik, Northwest Territories invites applications for the position of Manager, Government Affairs, to lead the intergovernmental activities of the organization. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful incumbent’s duties will include:
• actively engaging with various levels of government to support and advance the goals of the GTC Executive;
• overseeing internal and external communications relating to government affairs for the organization;
• managing the implementation of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA) signed in 1992; and
• supporting the negotiation of a Self-Government Final Agreement with Canada and the GNWT as outlined in the GCLCA.

A Degree in Public Administration, Policy, Law, a related field or equivalent with a minimum of seven years related experience, including experience working with Land Claim Agreements is required. Experience in negotiations and policy development in both the private and public sectors, ideally in a cross-cultural setting as well as experience in consultation and stakeholder engagement is preferred; direct supervisory experience is an asset.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment providing programs and services to Indigenous people while working in and supporting a respectful and welcoming team environment.

The salary will fall within the range of $100,000 to $130,000 plus a benefits package including northern and vacation allowances, health and dental benefits, a pension plan and generous leave entitlements. Preference will be given to candidates who are Participants of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.
