Full-Time Manager, Health and Wellness

Job Description

Are you passionate about developing and implementing health and wellness programs for Gwich’in communities?

The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC), based in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, invites applications for a Manager, Health and Wellness, to plan, design, implement, and evaluate health and wellness programs to enhance and sustain Gwich’in Participants’ mental, emotional and cultural health. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the incumbent will lead departmental staff in the provision of programs for adults, children, youth, and families in meaningful collaboration with Gwich’in communities. Tasks will include managing third-party funded mental health, emotional and cultural support programs; promotion of cultural safety in the health and social services system; research and capacity building, including identifying and obtaining external funding; and advocacy and outreach, including assistance to Gwich’in Participants in navigating and accessing NWT and federal non-insured health benefits.

The successful applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Health, Social Services or a related field and five (5) years’ experience in the delivery and management of health promotion or related programs. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience in program management, staff supervision, evaluation and training preferred.

The ideal candidate will be proficient using Microsoft Office, comfortable working in a dynamic, demanding and cross-cultural environment, and skilled in building and leading respectful, cohesive teams to provide culturally safe, relevant programs and services to Indigenous people.

The salary range is from $100,000 to $130,000. A competitive benefits package will be offered including generous northern and vacation allowances, health and dental benefits, a pension plan and generous leave entitlements.

Preference will be given to candidates who are Participants of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.
