We are currently seeking an individual to assume the demanding and rewarding position of
Manager, Municipal Law and Policy for an eighteen (18) month term
Under the general supervision of the Director of Economic Development and Strategy, the incumbent assists in the provision of a full range of legal services for the City of Yellowknife. The incumbent provides opinions along with verbal and written advice to internal clients on an array of diverse legal matters; drafts, negotiates and reviews various contracts and other agreements to which the City is a party; drafts bylaws and policies for Council’s and Administration’s consideration; and may also act as a liaison between external counsel and Administration.
This position requires a Bachelor of Law degree or equivalent and eligibility to practice as a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories. The incumbent must have some experience in corporate planning and a strong knowledge of municipal governance, structure, issues, policies, practices and service delivery. This knowledge is usually gained from a minimum of three years of litigation (civil and regulatory and enforcement) and legal counsel experience (i.e. in corporate commercial, procurement, real property and construction law).
The City of Yellowknife offers a competitive salary range of $133,679 – $167,098 and a comprehensive benefits package including housing and vacation travel allowances totalling $450 a month and a defined benefit pension plan.
