Notice of Public Hearing
Project: Snare Hydroelectric Facility
Location: Snare River, NT
Purpose: The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) submitted an Application to renew Type A Water Licences N1L4-0150 and W2014L4-0001. The scope of the Project includes the already licenced hydroelectric generation plants and associated structures at Snare Rapids, Snare Falls, and Snare Forks (currently under Water Licence N1L4-0150), as well as Snare Cascades (currently under Water Licence W2014L4-0004). NTPC is applying to combine the Water Licences into one Licence. Currently, the Snare Cascades Facility is owned by Dogrib Power Corporation (DPC) but operated by NTPC. NTPC provided a letter from DPC indicating that DPC supports combining the plants into one Licence.

Intervention deadline: November 3, 2023

A public hearing will be held by the Board to fulfill subsection 41(2)(a) of the Waters Act on November 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The hearing will be held in Yellowknife, NT in accordance with the LWB Rules of Procedure. A specific location is still being finalized. Once determined, it will be published on the Board’s website. Those interested in attending can also call the number below to receive an update on the location.

Written interventions for this public hearing must be submitted to the Board at the address below by 5:00 p.m., November 3, 2023.

If no notice is received of persons indicating their intention to appear and make presentations concerning the Application, and the Applicant consents in writing to the disposition of the matter without a public hearing, the Board may cancel the hearing as per subsection 41(3) of the Waters Act.
