We are growing! It is an exciting time to join the team at Pulaarvik Kablu Friendship Centre (PKFC)!
In 1979, PKFC was created by Inuit, for Inuit, in Rankin Inlet. Today, it is becoming a vibrant regional organization providing needed wellness programs and services across the Kivalliq Region. Our goal is to deliver Inuit-designed, Inuit-led programs and services that are closely aligned with Kivalliq Inuit Societal Values and Culture, while also being evidence-based, and informed by best practices. We strive to work in partnership with municipalities’ wellness programs and in partnership with clinical health and social services available in all Nunavut communities through the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health.
PKFC Addictions program department is happy to announce a new 28 day on-the-land Addictions treatment program which will be offered three times annually. This program will have participants from the Kivalliq region.
PKFC is seeking facilitators who will provide a vital role in this treatment program. We are currently looking for individuals who can facilitate day to day programming. A Facilitator who has an interest in counselling. Willingness to assist those reach goals to achieve sobriety. PKFC Addictions program is seeking 2 (two) individuals. Inuit beneficiaries will be made priority. These positions are casual employment. Training will be provided to the successful individuals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• program facilitators will conduct day to day activities for 28 days OTL program with guidance from the OTL workbook
• planning and implantation of activities
• addiction counselling in all stages of recovery
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• ability to work independently and with a team
• familiar with camping out on the land surrounding Rankin Inlet
• familiar with Inuit culture
• willing to learn and open to new ideas
• ability to teach adults in a different environment
• communications skills
• ability to maintain confidentiality
• ability to work effectively under pressure and in a stressful situation
• ability to make healthy and professional choices around alcohol, drug use and gambling
• knowledge of addictions and impacts of trauma
• knowledge of mental health illness and possible impacts on addiction recovery
• ability to deliver presentations that are well structured and easy to understand
• ability to lead and facilitate programming
• ability to write reports and meet deadlines
• willingness to work evenings and weekends during the 28 day on the land program
Qualification requirements:
PKFC is committed to providing training to the successful candidate(s).
The following qualifications and qualities are required:
• must be a Nunavut beneficiary, fluent in Inuktitut and English
• ability to work full-time for 3 months in the year. Additional weeks/months prior to and after a program intake (for training and preparation) may be required
• must be experienced in land-based cultural activities
• ability to work effectively under pressure and in a stressful situation
• must have basic computer skills (word processing and email)
• must have counselling experience
• addictions counselling training will be provided
Earning and Wages:
For this position we offer:
• $40 per hour plus $9.23 including Northern Allowance
• housing is not available for this position
• this position is seasonal
