REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Student Residence House Parents
The DDEC is accepting applications for the staffing of two House Parent positions in a twelve-bed, co-educational students’ residence located in Fort Simpson.
The residence serves the needs of students from smaller communities throughout the Dehcho region who are attending secondary school in Fort Simpson. The residence operates according to the Operational Guidelines established by the DDEC. Students are separated into two groups by gender. One House Parent is needed to supervise each group of students. These are live-in positions. Room and board are provided in addition to a competitive salary.
Responsibilities:
• Provide a culturally based and nurturing family environment where students will receive personal, academic, and social support.
• One of the two house parents should be onsite at all times.
• Work closely with parents and officials of the DDEC to communicate student needs, progress, and address issues that may arise.
• Ensure that students observe the evening curfew and follow the guidelines established by the DDEC.
• Provide experiences that develop living, cultural, and recreational skills.
• Prepare and provide daily healthy meals and snacks for students, avoiding prepackaged meals and including daily servings of fruit and vegetables.
Qualifications:
• Experience working with adolescents in a cross-cultural setting.
• Training in counseling and child development is an asset.
• Ability to assist high school students with their studies.
• A clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector search is required.
Applications must include a resume, cover letter, and references. The DDEC evaluates applications according to the Operational Guidelines, which may be obtained from the DDEC office. Applications must be submitted to the DDEC at the address listed below by May 2, 2023. Preference will be given to applicants who identify as indigenous or have a Dene cultural background.
