The YWCA Agvik Nunavut is seeking to hire a full-time (indeterminate) Executive Director. YWCA Agvik is dedicated to supporting the safety and well-being of women and children primarily in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The organization operates:
• a 12-bed shelter, services, and support for women and their children who are homeless in the community of Iqaluit.
• a 21-bed shelter, services, and supports for women and their children who are experiencing intimate partner violence in the Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin) Region of Nunavut
• a project to create affordable housing for Inuit women.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for managing the operations, staff and programs of the Association, including an operating budget of $2 million and approximately 30-35 staff. Strict confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
YWCA Agvik Nunavut is seeking an experienced manager with proven ability to work positively with Inuit or other indigenous communities, and who enjoys building and maintaining strong and positive relationships among staff, clients, volunteers, and the community. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity for a visionary leader with strong financial and staff management experience, planning and community development expertise, and excellent interpersonal skills in an indigenous environment. Knowledge of Iqaluit and surrounding communities is a requirement. Previous fundraising and non-profit experience and understanding of working with government would be definite assets. Fluency in Inuktut, a degree in social work or a related field, or equivalent experience are also strong assets.
Salary for this position starts at $105,000 plus a Northern Living Allowance of $10,000 a year.
